Jimmy Maladina labels Peter O’Neill a ‘serial liar’

JULY 6 2022

Lawyer and Pangu Pati candidate for Esa’ala Jimmy Maladina, whose evidence implicated Peter O’Neill in the UBS Commission of Inquiry, has labelled O’Neill as a “serial liar”.

He said this today (July 6 2022) in response to a statement by O’Neill claiming that he was distributing fake ballot papers in Esa’ala in his bid to unseat People’s National Congress’ deputy leader Davis Steven.

Jimmy Maladina (left) and PM Marape on Normanby Island last month.

“Peter O’Neill, as I know only too well, is a serial liar,” Maladina said.

“Seeing that I have massive support on Esa’ala, including from most councilors, he comes up with this ‘fake news’ that I am distributing fake ballot papers.

“My party leader and Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape, was on Normanby Island recently for my campaign rally and shed tears as he saw the rundown health centre, jetty and no roads on the island.

“Most of the councilors were there and spoke in support of me.

“The people of Esa’ala are fed up with no service delivery by PNC and Steven for the last 10 years.”

Maladina said he would ensure that O’Neill would face the full force of the law after the elections for his part in the UBS loan.

“My evidence to the UBS Commission-of-Inquiry stood unchallenged, and the eminent commissioners and counsel assisting the Inquiry, all chose to believe my version of events and evidence presented in the Inquiry – as opposed to Peter O’Neill’s evidence,” he said.

“When the time comes after the elections, a competent court of law will again test my evidence against his words and will determine who is telling the truth…all in good time so he should not count his eggs too quickly because the truth always prevails.”
