Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has presented K5 million to Abau District, Central, to upgrade power supply to Kupiano Station.
PM Marape presented the money to Abau MP, Hon. Sir Puka Temu, at Kupiano last Friday, May 26, 2023. The Prime Minister made the presentation while in Kupiano to open the K20 million Kupiano Hospital funded by Santos through the Government’s Tax Credit Scheme (TCS).
He extended an invitation to Santos, a multinational oil and gas company operating in Papua New Guinea, to continue to assist the district through its TCS programme to set up a small power generator to supply the station.
“This demonstrates the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting development initiatives, and leveraging private sector resources to address critical infrastructure needs,” PM Marape said.
“However, it is important to ensure that any development initiatives are implemented in a way that is sustainable and equitable, and that they take into account the needs and perspectives of local communities.
“This may involve engaging with community members to understand their priorities and concerns, and involving them in the planning and implementation of development projects.”
