PM Marape starts two-day tour of Western Province

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape starts a two-day visit to Western Province today (December 27, 2022), during which time he will visit Daru, Weam and Nomad River.

PM Marape starts his tour of the Western front today in Daru where he will officiate at the launching of road sealing for the town. He then goes on to Weam in South Fly bordering Indonesia where he will inspect land for economic development including agriculture. Tomorrow (December 28, 2022) touches down at remote Nomad River where he spent his early years.

He then travels to his Tari-Pori District to spend time with his people.

“I thank all Papua New Guineans for a Christmas that was relatively quiet, and ask everyone to ensure that this continues as we celebrate the New Year,” PM Marape said before leaving for Daru.

“You can be assured that your Government continues to work for you over the festive period

“Today I will be officiating at the launching of Daru Town road sealing.

“I will then be travelling to Weam with a team from Department of National Planning and Monitoring, Department of Prime Minister and NEC, and Western Provincial Government to inspect the huge land mass there.

“This is land which we want to unbundle for cattle, oil palm and other agriculture and industries with a readily-available market across the border in Indonesia.

“We currently have a contract for a road to Weam with plans to develop the area into a small township.

“Tomorrow, I will be travelling to remote Nomad River, where I will overnight.

“On Thursday (December 29, 2022), I will be travelling to Tari, and will be working right through the New Year period.”
