Tari, Hela Province, Papua New Guinea, December 25, 2023 – On Christmas Day, Prime Minister and Tari-Pori Member of Parliament, Hon. James Marape, delivered a powerful message urging the people of Hela and the entire nation to foster respect for one another to contribute to the betterment of the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the impressive K27 million Hulukumaiya Building, jointly funded by the Tari-Pori District, Hela Provincial Government, and the ExxonMobil tax-credit scheme, Prime Minister Marape emphasised the importance of mutual respect.
“This Christmas, I want to encourage the people of Hela and Papua New Guinea as a whole to have respect for each other to make the country a better place,” said Prime Minister Marape.
“Have respect for each other, starting in your homes with husbands respecting wives, wives respecting husbands, and children respecting parents. If every Papua New Guinean and people of Hela want the Government to do a good job, to better run the country, it boils down to respect. If we want Papua New Guinea to become a better place, it starts with every one of us, by giving respect to each other.”
Prime Minister Marape specifically urged the people of Hela, stating, “We have been a province for 13 years now, and it is time that we all start respecting each other. When we start doing this, our province will become a better place.”
Highlighting the significance of the Hulukumaiya Building, Prime Minister Marape announced that the Hela Provincial Government would move into the building in the new year of 2024. This marks a milestone moment since 2011 when Hela became a province of its own.
“The Tari District has funded this building in partnership with the Hela Provincial Government and the tax-credit scheme, which belongs to all of you,” he said.
“It will house the Office of the Governor, Tari-Pori District Development Authority, and also the Hela Provincial Assembly.”
Prime Minister Marape commended Hela Governor Hon. Philip Undialu for the successful completion of the Hela 1 Building and applauded ongoing efforts towards the completion of the Hela 2 and Hela 3 Buildings, which are expected to house public servants and transform the landscape of Tari Town.
