From TERRY MARK in Kainantu
Prime Minister Hon. James Marape today encouraged the people of Kainantu in Eastern Highlands to get involved in agriculture and for youths to be serious about furthering their education.
He said while officiating at the launching of seven major Government projects in Kainantu.
The projects are:
- K4 milllion Kainantu Market;
- Kainantu Mortuary;
- Kainantu Administration Building Complex;
- Kamano No.2 High School;
- Kainantu Town Road Sealing;
- Kainantu-Okapa Road Sealing; and
- Ramu 2 Hydro Power Station.
PM Marape urged the people of Kainantu and Eastern Highlands to get into agriculture as well as further their education.
“There are two things that this Government is focusing on,” he said.
” That is to promote our school-leavers to embark on furthering their education through Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) to upgrade their grades, and the other is getting into the agriculture industry – which is the easiest and quickest way of engaging in SMEs. “
PM Marape thanked Kainantu MP and Mining Minister Hon. Johnson Tuke for his vibrant leadership and undying support to the Government.
He brought with him a long-outstanding cheque of K4 million for Kainantu Secondary School, which he had committed in his previous capacity as Education Minister.
This is the first time in 36 years that a prime minister has visited Kainantu.
It’s remarkable for the people of Kainantu District. It seems to be for the first time to see projects in a bundle at once, which never used to be for the past 45 years. if there are returns, the Government invests, if there are no returns, no investment. However, thanks to PM for recognising Kainantu District as a resourceful region in the country. This could be the start of development and there will be more to come as we move forward.
